About Tom

I began moving my photography from hobby to fine art about four years ago.  Among my earliest inspirations were the works of Ansel Adams and the Westons for their mastery of composition and the subtleties of grayscale, and Margaret Bourke-White for the boldness and beauty with which she portrayed the world of steel and concrete.

I have always been captivated by the power of a black and white print to isolate the essence of light and shadow, lines and textures, while evoking deeper emotions.  One of my current projects is examining the interaction of light with the surface of metallic objects. The images reveal an inherent beauty and depth that attracts the eye and entices it to linger a little longer. I am also a keen sailor with an interest in marine and aviation photography.

I do most of my work using Nikon and Olympus digital cameras and an iPhone; Lightroom, Photoshop, and Nik software for most post-processing; and an Epson 3880 printer and Canson, Moab and Red River papers for printing.
