Colleen Spencer Henderson is a fine art photographer and photo educator based in the Washington DC area. Like many photographers she has her favorite subject matter, landscapes, seascapes and nighttime cityscapes, but over the years she has learned that specific image content is much less important to her than capturing the interesting interplay of light, shadow and objects in her images.
She seeks to create calm, clean compositions with clearly defined “main and supporting characters”. She enjoys the challenge of making strong, compelling imagery from ordinary, everyday objects like an old straw broom, breakfast dishes or vintage books on a shelf. Her goal is to provide the initial storyline, and then invite the viewer to develop their own personal narrative.
Colleen is a juried member of Multiple Exposures Gallery and a juried associate artist at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. She exhibits regularly and her work is held in many private, corporate and public art collections, including the permanent collection of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Systems.
