Statement
Square – Not Color is a selection from my more recent work. A couple of years ago I transitioned from color landscapes to black and white photography, photographing different subjects such as old, abandoned buildings, preserved historical buildings, people in the street (usually as an observer from a distance trying to respect the privacy of others even in public spaces), portraiture and some macro photography.
I photograph in a square format whenever possible (an homage to older times) mostly with a medium format camera that allows me to photograph from a distance when the structures are too dangerous to approach more closely and still make my image.
My next projects will mark a return to film cameras, where I started many years ago, although with a hybrid digital negative and print process.
Print Information
These images are all printed on an Epson P800 printer, using archival inks and printed on acid free paper. The print process is called Piezography and required a specialized set of monochrome inks that provide fine tonal separation as the process has many more shades between pure white and pure black than the normal process which makes black and white from the standard color inkset.
