Statement
Structural Abstracts was inspired by my discovery of the work of Charles Demuth and other artists of the Precisionist movement during a visit to the Demuth Museum in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Precisionism, which emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, celebrated the industrialized American landscape through sharply defined geometric forms and clean, modern compositions. Drawing on that legacy, I transform a single photograph of iconic architecture or building materials: corten steel, concrete, and glass, into layered abstractions by rotating and repeating the original image. The resulting compositions retain the essence of their source while exploring rhythm, symmetry, light, and structure.
