Portfolio Submission Guidelines
This year, we have implemented a new, two-round member selection process that provides applicants with updated guidance on what we are seeking in potential members, while reducing the costs associated with preparing a portfolio for consideration. With this new process, applicants will first submit a digital portfolio and application, which will be reviewed by the MEG membership in early November. Following this review, applicants whose work is selected for further consideration will be invited to submit a print portfolio for the second round. This process ensures applicants only invest in a print portfolio after their digital work advances.
GUIDELINES
The portfolio you submit should show us your aesthetic, creativity, and craftsmanship in fine art photography. It should be a collection that tells a story, explores a specific concept, or follows a unifying theme. The images should represent your unique artistic vision as well as engage and challenge the viewer.
To assist you in putting together the best possible portfolio for our review and to help us fairly evaluate your work, we provide the following guidelines:
Round 1: Digital Portfolio
The digital portfolio should consist of 10 images that work together as a cohesive and compelling body of work, unified in style, theme, or concept. Imagine you are curating your first exhibition at MEG—select images that tell a visual story and flow together, rather than simply submitting individual pieces you consider your strongest. MEG members use this framework and their own artistic judgment when evaluating portfolio submissions.
Submit your 10 images by email (info@multipleexposuresgallery.com) or upload to Box.com using the following guidelines:
File Format: JPEG
File Size: Less than 1MB
Dimensions/Resolution: 1200 pixels on the long side at 72-300 ppi
Color Profile: sRGB
Filename Format: YourLastName_ImageNumber_ImageTitle.jpg (Example: Evans_01_TheBlueRidge.jpg)
The Image Number in the Filename should correspond to the order in which you would like your images viewed. Please start your numbering with 01.
Provide a statement that introduces your portfolio and your artistic intent (e.g., narrative or concept). The statement should not exceed one page in length and should be submitted as a PDF file.
Round 2: Print Portfolio
If you are selected to advance, your print portfolio should consist of 12–15 matted, unframed prints that work together as a cohesive and compelling body of work, unified in style, theme, or concept. You are encouraged to expand on the previously submitted digital portfolio given the time constraints. Each matted print should be no larger than 20” x 24”.
In addition to the 12-15 matted prints, please provide 10 additional unmatted prints showing the scope and range of your work (this is where you can share individual pieces or another small series.) These supplemental prints do not need to be matted and should be no larger than 20” X 24”.
The prints and mats you submit should represent the quality of work you would be showing and selling in the gallery. Always show your best work.
Black-and-white images printed using traditional darkroom processes must be printed using fiber-based materials and archival processing.
Digital prints must indicate the inkset and paper used, and the estimated life expectancy of the print.
All prints included in your portfolio should be clearly identified and labeled. If the sequence of images is critical to your presentation, please number the prints on the label.
If your print portfolio differs from your previous digital submission, please include a statement that introduces your portfolio and your artistic intent (e.g., narrative or concept). The statement should not exceed one page in length and should be printed with your submission.
Your prints and any additional paperwork should be delivered to MEG in a single portfolio case or box. The portfolio case should be easy to store and should not exceed 24” X 32”. Your name and contact information must be clearly visible on the outside of your portfolio case.
