2026 Call for New Members
Multiple Exposures Gallery is seeking local fine art photographers to join our community of exhibiting artists.
Multiple Exposures Gallery (MEG), located at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA, is a cooperative gallery representing 15 photographers recognized for excellence in fine art photography. Now in its 41st year, MEG presents thoughtfully curated rotating exhibitions, often in collaboration with nationally acclaimed jurors and curators, and offers an outstanding selection of original photographs and photography books. Named by the City of Alexandria as a “beacon for all who appreciate the art and craft of photography,” MEG is a vibrant forum for artistic exchange, appreciation, and education.
Local fine art photographers interested in becoming MEG members are encouraged to apply. Accepted applicants will join MEG in early 2027, with the next opportunity for membership in 2028. The application process and important dates are outlined below.

GAIN GALLERY EXPERIENCE
MEG members gain hands-on experience in operating a professional gallery, including launching exhibitions, marketing, and engaging with visitors.
WHAT’S REQUIRED
Membership at MEG is both an artistic and professional commitment. Members share responsibility for staffing the gallery, participating in exhibitions, attending monthly meetings, and contributing to the ongoing operation and development of the gallery. As you consider whether to apply, please review this list of Member Responsibilities and Obligations to ensure your expectations align with ours.

The process of applying for and gaining membership to MEG is disciplined and requires a serious commitment. To provide guidance to prospective applicants, MEG is holding information sessions on the following dates:
Wednesday, September 16, 7 p.m. — via Zoom
Saturday, September 26, 11 a.m. — in person at MEG
The information session is optional, but attendance is encouraged so you can receive helpful information about the gallery, membership responsibilities, and the portfolio you will be required to submit.
The content is the same for both sessions. We encourage attendance at the in-person session to see the gallery and Torpedo Factory firsthand, and meet MEG members.
Please register for the information session you will attend: Information Session RSVP

If you plan to submit an application for membership consideration, please notify us of your intention to apply by sending an email to Stacy Smith Evans, MEG Vice President at info@multipleexposuresgallery.com by Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
Before making your decision to apply, we recommend you review the description of Member Responsibilities and Obligations to ensure your expectations are the same as those of the gallery.

To be considered for MEG membership, you must provide:
A representative photographic portfolio of your best work and an accompanying statement introducing your portfolio and your artistic intent. Please use the Portfolio Submission Guidelines to assist in preparing your digital portfolio.
A completed MEG membership application, including a link to your website, a current resume and list of exhibitions, and an artist statement. Please complete the application form here: Membership Application
Gallery members will review digital portfolios and membership applications. Please see the Portfolio Evaluation Guide for insight into how members evaluate and make their selections.
Digital portfolios must be submitted by 5 p.m. EST on Friday, October 16.
Applicants will be notified by email on Tuesday, November 3, whether they are invited to advance to the second round.
-
Selected applicants will be invited to submit a print portfolio. Please refer to the Portfolio Submission Guidelines when preparing your print portfolio. The portfolio must be delivered to the gallery no later than Tuesday, December 15 @ 5 p.m. The gallery is open daily 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note portfolios will not be accepted after the deadline.
-
Depending on the number of applicants, MEG will either schedule individual interviews with applicants or group discussions between applicants and several MEG members.
If four or fewer finalists are selected for Round 2, group discussions will be held on January 23 and/or 30. If more than four finalists are selected, finalists will instead schedule individual interviews with three to five MEG members, to be completed by January 30.
Interviews will take place in-person at the gallery. You will receive an email from Stacy Smith Evans with the gallery staffing schedule and email addresses of MEG members, and you will reach out directly to the individual members with whom you would like to meet to schedule interview times.
Group discussions will take place on Saturday, January 23 or Sunday, January 30. The group discussions are an opportunity to share more about your portfolio and answer questions from members. They are not intended to be formal presentations.
-
Gallery members will meet in early February 2027 to conduct a formal review of each application and portfolio, and determine if membership will be offered to any applicants. Results of this review process will be emailed to each applicant no later than February 3, 2027. Once notified of the outcome, each applicant must pick up their portfolios by Sunday, February 14, 2027 during gallery hours. The gallery is not responsible for portfolios that remain after this date.
HOW TO APPLY
This year, we have implemented a new, two-round member selection process that provides applicants with updated guidance on what we are seeking in potential members, while reducing the costs associated with preparing a portfolio for consideration. With this new process, applicants will first submit a digital portfolio and application, which will be reviewed by the MEG membership in early November. Following this review, applicants whose work is selected for further consideration will be invited to submit a print portfolio during the second round. This process ensures that applicants only invest in a print portfolio after advancing from the digital submission round.
